WE STILL HAVE SPACES AVAILABLE, SIGN UP NOW!
We do not offer vegetarian, half or otherwise customized shares at this time. Check the Forum to find others in your area who would like to work out a method to share a subscription.
We will offer members the ability to add to their weekly shares with more of the great products we are featuring. Here is a list of the items we would like to include, with an estimated value for each category.
You can expect to find the following in your share each week:
MEAT $8 (based on average price of all meats)
A pound of one of the following, humanely raised, hormone-free meats
grass-fed ground beef
pork sausages, bratwursts, or bacon
grass-fed ground lamb
grass fed ground bison
farm-raised Missouri trout
free-range whole chicken (chickens are approximately three pounds)
PRODUCE $22
We're shooting for an average of six to eight varieties of produce each week--fruits, vegetables and herbs. This is the real CSA part of the program, because the farmers' yields will have a direct impact on the abundance we see in our shares. Here's an example of what a typical weekly share of produce in the summer may look like:
1 pound cucumbers
3 pounds tomatoes
1 pound eggplants
1 bunch basil
1/2 pound green beans
1/2 pound sweet peppers
1 pound onions
1 cantaloupe
During the winter, there will obviously be little fresh produce available, so we're working with farmers who will put up fruits and veggies to get us through until spring.
If you're able to open an Excel file, we've posted our produce list at the bottom of the page--it doesn't give a timeline, but you can see the variety we'll be offering over the course of the year.
DAIRY A package of goat cheese or cows milk cheese, or butter if we can source enough. $5
EGGS We're planning to include a dozen eggs three out of five weeks. $3.75
STARCH A loaf of local bread or package of local pasta. $4
OTHER GOODIES $8
-Mushrooms will be on a rotation basis, two out of five weeks, with the option to buy more.
-Depending on the actual costs of all the contents above, we'll include one or more of the following each week, on a rotating basis: honey, coffee, jams, preserves, peanut butter, chocolate, etc.
--any other local items you know of that we should include? Let us know!
NOTES Each week, we'll rotate the contents of the shares based on protein. The produce may be the same from week to week depending on what's in season, but we're sourcing a good variety to keep things interesting, plus we'll try to package things up with a good menu and recipes in mind.
If we're short in one category, we'll make up for it in another. For example, during the summer, we may go pretty heavy on a the great produce available; in the winter, we may bump up the other categories to make up for the produce shortfall. But over the course of the year, we'll make sure members get the total value for which they have paid. We hope to add in a bit of choice as we go along, and we'll survey you to determine your priorities.
